Visqueen Radon Sump is a prefabricated plastic unit designed to act as a collection point for radon gas prior to it being ventilated away when connected to an extract fan.
Where subfloor depressurisation is required, a Visqueen Radon Sump should be used. This is a prefabricated plastic sump, to which pipework is connected, with the joints fully sealed using the Visqueen Radon Membrane Jointing System. A venting pipe should be connected to the sump, pass through the external wall and brought out above ground level about 100mm from the face of the external wall. The pipe is then capped until such time as a fan is installed.
A sump is only installed as a fall-back measure and does not provide any radon removal until a fan is installed or, if the sump is located centrally, the pipe is connected to a passive stack system. Typically, sumps are installed at one unit per dwelling or every 15m radius.
