It’s been an insulation kind of weekend!
I’ve also ordered my windows which are due to be delivered in the next couple of days! So next week I’ll be cutting holes in the sides (terrified and excited, ha ha!)
I’m going the more unconventional route and using thin multi-foil insulation for the areas I want maximum width and headroom. I’m using Superfoil 6mm SFUF on the floor and central wall sections (to give maximum bed width). I also managed to get a mega deal on a roll of thick SF40 so picked it apart and separated the layers to double layer and bump up the insulation on the floor and walls. I spoke to the technical team at Superfoil and they said it would work 👌🏻
This weekend the floor is now down (although I’m having a false storage floor so they’ll be a frame on top of the ply. Plus most of the walls are now insulated.... though I had to sew the layers together on key areas to hold it together on the wall until I batten it out for the wall finish.
It’s at that stage of the build where everything looks a total mess! Ahhh 🤣
I still have the ceiling to do. That will be tricky as I’m following the line of the roof and using the SFUF insulation between the ribs... I have a vision in my mind of how I’ll finish it, but more on that another time, just really hope it works out and gravity doesn’t cause chaos!
Sometimes I wonder why I didn’t go the easy route of buying a pre-cut ply lining kit! 🤷🏼♀️😆

The boards were easy to cut; I used a sharp knife to score about 15-20mm deep into the board, then snapped apart by placing a batten under the scored line and pressing gently. Boards were also easy to trim to a perfect fit, using a chisel to chamfer the edges where necessary - slow but satisfying when the board fits tightly between joists! V happy with the result and the floor is a lot warmer, holding the heat in the room.

Used as insulation for my suspended timber floor. Cuts easily with scissors (big pair). It will arrive compacted and about half the thickness advertised but after a day it puffs out. Easy to work with, I tried bare handed and had no reaction. Also, it does NOT have a bad smell.

Used as VCL layer when insulating my suspended timber floor. Tough material but cuts easily with scissors. Thick fabric like feel to it.

This is excellent insulation, i’ve had to use 100mm in walls, 75mm subfloor and 40mm over face of walls , and it’s all good stuff. But obviously messy when you trim a little to fit in a stud frame so wear correct PPE.

Good quality boards, done exactly what they are meant to do. Will indent slightly when kneeling on them. Once adhesive all cured, primed and covered directly with Resitrix SKW.
