Find out moreMade from blown polythene material, this Novia 1000 VCL is designed to meet your needs for controlling water vapour and maintaining airtightness within timber frame constructions. Positioned between the 500G and 1200G membranes, this medium specification VCL is fully CPR-compliant and CE-approved as a reliable vapour control layer.
Vapour control layers (VCLs) are essential for regulating the flow of water vapour in insulated buildings. Without these membranes, condensation can wreak havoc on the building structure, leading to long-term damage and increased heating and cooling expenses. Even a mere 3% moisture deposited within the insulation can reduce its performance by up to a third.
This Novia 1000 VCL not only manages moisture within your structure but also acts as an effective barrier against air leakage, preventing unwanted convection flows. To ensure a complete durable vapour seal, this Novia 1000 VCL should be used in conjunction with Novia's compatible butyl and foil sealing tapes throughout its lifespan. For a fully airtight and vapour-resistant system, it should be combined with Novia's breather membranes.
In terms of application, Novia VCL products are easily sealed using Novia's double-side butyl tapes, typically with a 75mm to 100mm overlap. However, some products may require a larger overlap for optimal performance. To reinforce the seal, a lap seal is applied on top using Novia's reliable foil tapes. For stronger tapes, choose wider tapes that align with your specific application and budget. To enhance overall airtightness, pre-applying butyl tape to studs or timbers at the fixing points is recommended. This preparation ensures a superior seal when applying staples or any final wall coverings like plasterboard.
Question:
How to fix Novia 1000 to the plywood in the single ply warm roof construction?
Answer:
Our suppliers have recommended to use double sided butyl tape to help keep the VCL in place. But if you are looking to mechanically fix the VCL as well to support it, then I would recommend to use the fixings and make sure that the fixings go through the Butyl tape too, as it can self seal around the penetration to help keep it weather tight.
Question:
What is the best VCL to use for a domestic application?
Answer:
There are many factors that effect the choice of VCL, Novia VC2, Novia 500 and Novia 1000 are all possible solutions but check with us or your architect for full guidance.
Question:
Are your VCLs airtight?
Answer:
Yes all Novia VCLs are airtight. The joints and overlaps must be taped to maintain a completely airtight installation.
Question:
Do I need tapes with a VCL?
Answer:
Tapes are an essential part of ensuring a VCL is air and moisture tight. Without sealing tapes a VCL would leak and be ineffective.
Question:
Do Novia VCLs have certification?
Answer:
Yes, all Novia VCLs are manufactured to strict BS EN 13984 requirements, which is vital when looking at polythene based VCLs.
