Find out moreFor application as a vapour control layer in walls of timber frame constructions or situations that necessitate the regulation of water vapour passage, Novia 1000 VCL is made of medium specification, virgin-grade blown polythene material. With a green tint, the 1000G polythene retains its full CE approval as a vapour control layer.
This 100m² DIY kit consists of one 4m x 25m 1000 gauge Vapour Control Layer, two 30m x 30mm butyl tapes and one 45m x 75mm foil tape. It is cheaper overall than paying for the individual items combined and Novia AirSeal310 Sealant 310ml. Not only is it more convenient, but it ensures you order the adequate number of tapes as well as the correct types for your vapour control layers.
Vapour Control Layers (VCLs) are designed to be installed on the interior (warm side) of insulated buildings in order to regulate the movement of water vapour, which naturally forms due to normal building usage. When constructions lack these membranes, condensation is likely to form within the building structure. This condensation can potentially cause long-term damage to the building and result in substantially higher heating and cooling expenses in the short term. Even a small amount of moisture, as little as 3% deposited within the building's insulation, has been proven to hinder insulation performance by up to one third.
In addition to managing water vapour, this product also serves as a barrier against air leakage, preventing energy losses caused by undesired convection currents. To ensure a complete vapour seal throughout the entire lifespan of the product, Novia compatible butyl and foil sealing tapes are advised. For an airtight and vapour-resistant system, Novia 1000 VCL is best used in conjunction with Novia breather membranes.
Question:
What is the best VCL to use for a domestic application?
Answer:
There are many factors that effect the choice of VCL, Novia VC2, Novia 500 and Novia 1000 are all possible solutions but check with us or your architect for full guidance.
Question:
Are your VCLs airtight?
Answer:
Yes all Novia VCLs are airtight. The joints and overlaps must be taped to maintain a completely airtight installation.
Question:
Do I need tapes with a VCL?
Answer:
Tapes are an essential part of ensuring a VCL is air and moisture tight. Without sealing tapes a VCL would leak and be ineffective.
Question:
Do Novia VCLs have certification?
Answer:
Yes, all Novia VCLs are manufactured to strict BS EN 13984 requirements, which is vital when looking at polythene based VCLs.
