Novia Reflex Reflective Roof & Wall Breathable Membrane - 50m x 1.5m

This Novia Reflex is a premium metallised synthetic laminate designed for exceptional performance in roof underlay applications and as high-quality wall cladding on timber frame constructions. With its versatility and affordability, it is the ideal choice for both cold and warm pitches as well as insulation wall installations.

Compliant with EN 13859-1 for roofs and 13859-2 for walls, this reflective breather membrane enhances R and U values when used in appropriate structures. Not only does it offer excellent water resistance, but it also maintains high breathability. Boasting exceptional strength and tear resistance, this Novia Reflex membrane meets the EN 13501-1 fire classification grade E.

You can rest assured that this Novia Reflex membrane fully adheres to the mandatory CE marking requirements introduced by the 2013 Construction Products Regulations. This means that compliance with the latest standard is essential for all products covered by a current hEN. Third-party accreditation alone is no longer sufficient or relevant. Any products manufactured after July 2013 must meet the CPR standard and receive CE approval.

Installation

• Walls: For walls, simply affix this Novia Reflex membrane to the structure, ensuring that upper layers overlap lower layers and the reflective side faces outward into the cavity. Begin from the bottom, working your way up and maintaining a minimum overlap of 100mm for horizontal joints. Be mindful not to start a vertical lap joint within 300mm of a corner and ensure that all vertical laps are at least 150mm. Protect the bottom timber with an overlap as well. Use galvanised nails, stainless staples or similar permanent fixings at appropriate intervals to secure the membrane.
• Roofs: For roofs, this Novia Reflex membrane is compatible with all standard roof applications and suitable for BS 5543 wind uplift scenarios. On insulated warm roofs, you can place the membrane directly onto the insulation or boarded roof if necessary. It is also ideal for conventional cold roof setups. Like the wall installation, overlap upper layers over lower layers, starting from the bottom and following the minimum overlaps outlined in BS 5534: 2014.
• For the ridge, make sure to have a 200mm overlap on each side and seal all vertical overlaps situated on a rafter. Use galvanised nails, stainless staples or approved fixings at suitable intervals to secure the membrane. Properly seal any entry points for services, such as soil pipes and vents, using this Novia Reflex membrane. When pipes penetrate the underlay, cut accurately, turn the edges up for a tight water-resistant fit and ideally seal with Novia tape.
• Wind Uplift Zones: To meet certain BS 5534 wind uplift zone requirements, utilise the single-sided Novia Breather Membrane Lap Tape. Refer to wind uplift tables for detailed instructions. In zones that require the use of Novia tape for compliance, a smaller 100mm overlap is acceptable. It is worth noting that the batten restrained results were tested with the standard 150mm overlap, without using Novia tape.
• Low-emissivity cavities: For improved U-value, consider installing this membrane in the opposite orientation with the reflective side facing backwards into a low-emissivity cavity. You can create the low-emissivity cavity by installing a 25mm counter-batten. This method also minimises the accumulation of contaminants on the reflective surface. In this configuration, apply a second breathable membrane like Novia Black on top of the Novia Reflex low emissivity layer, facing outward as usual.

Tapes

• Make sure to take advantage of Novia's installation tapes for optimal performance and overall airtightness to your roof. Even if not mandated in specific zones according to the BS 5534 wind uplift test results, using the single-sided Novia Breather Membrane Lap Tape is highly recommended. For projects with a greater emphasis on airtightness, the Novia Double-Sided Adhesive Tape is a perfect option. For optimal installation standards and airtightness, using both types of tape is advised to ensure a high-quality, long-lasting, airtight and breathable seal.
