Find out moreDesigned to facilitate the drainage of condensation that accumulates beneath stainless steel, aluminium, copper and zinc roofs and rigid standing seam cladding, this metal roof drainage membrane protects the roof structure and thermal insulation. It is vapour permeable and ideal for use under standing seam metal sheet roofs over timber boarding.
DuPont Tyvek Metal comprises of a Tyvek Supro vapour-permeable membrane that is bonded to an open mesh of polypropylene strands, which are approximately 8mm deep. It can deliver adequate separation between layers, permitting movement between the metal sheet and timber boarding. Moreover, it can decrease sound transmission generated by structure-borne sounds, such as rain clatter.
The open mesh of the product serves as ample support and retains a clear airspace underneath the standing seam sheet, letting any condensation drain away. The membrane's vapour permeability enables water vapour defusal through and into the mesh zone from the underlying construction. For this "breathable" function to work effectively, the supporting substrate beneath DuPont Tyvek Metal should also allow for vapour to pass through. To achieve this, it is recommended to use 150mm timber boards with a 2mm gap, which has been a tried-and-tested method.
While DuPont Tyvek Metal cannot completely eliminate the possibility of condensation forming in metal roof systems, it can significantly reduce the likelihood of condensation build-up. To effectively address this issue, a comprehensive approach to roof system design should be adopted, with a particular focus on achieving vapour control and airtightness in the internal lining. For such construction, DuPont AirGuard Reflective is a compatible air and vapour control layer.
Question:
Can I lay this on top of my rafters then counter batter and put a old type corrugated galvanised iron roof on ?
Answer:
Sadly not - The product must be installed over open jointed timber boarding, rather than directly over rafters, we have an install guide that you may find helpful - https://www.insulationsuperstore.co.uk/user-guides-brochures/dupont-tyvek-metal-installation-guide.html
