How do I calculate the correct size of BodenWärme heating kit?

To calculate which kit size is right for your project, you will first need to work out the area of the whole floor space by multiplying the length of the floor by the width. Once this is done, you should then subtract any fixed furniture from the area with a clearance of less than 50mm above the floor. This will eradicate the risk of causing hot spots in your room. When you have a total area minus the deductions, you should deduct a further 10% from your total as this will allow for the spacing between cables and around the perimeter of the room.

Please note:

• For optimal performance, it is essential to pair your BodenWärme under laminate heating mats with either the specified BodenWärme 5mm XPS underlay insulation or an equivalent soft XPS underlay expressly recommended for electric under laminate heating, and approved accordingly.
• The maximum total size of 140w/m² BodenWärme laminate and wood heating that a single thermostat can control is 24m². Should you require to cover an area greater than 24m², the area should be divided into separate zones and controlled via multiple thermostats.
• As with all electrical projects governed by Part P regulations, a certified electrician must undertake all mains electrical connections.
• The heating must be protected by a 30 Amp Residual Current Device (30mA RCD), protecting against electric shock. This can be situated within the consumer unit or via a dedicated fused spur.
• You should also ensure that the total current of your heating system does not surpass the current capacity of the circuit it is connected to. Standard domestic ring circuits are rated at 13 Amp, and you can take an electrical feed via a single 13 Amp fused spur.
